The Colorado State volleyball team defeated the Air Force Falcons in three games, 30-25, 30-17, 30-17 to move to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons fall to 4-20 overall and 0-9 in league action.

Colorado State was led by seniors Dre Downs and Casey Bauer with eight kills each, while Bauer had a career-high five aces with no errors to lead all players. Junior libero Katherine Whitney led the match with 15 digs and both sophomore Amanda Fahnestock and freshman setter Ashley Fornstrom recorded three blocks.

Air Force was led by senior middle blocker Kristin Hamlett with 13 kills, while freshman libero Rebecca Gerton led the team with 13 digs. Brooke Akers and Hamlett each tied for the team lead with three blocks.

CSU hit .253 for the match with 10 aces and only four errors and tallied six blocks, while Air Force hit just .037 with three aces and six blocks.

In the first game, the Rams jumped out to an early 6-1 lead with three Air Force errors and a kill by both Ashley Fornstrom and Rogers. The Rams used another four-point run to extend the lead to 13-4 when Air Force called for a timeout. The teams traded pointsw to 16-7 when the Falcons scored five straight to pull within four at 16-12. CSU scored three of the next four to extend the lead 19-13. Both teams scored four straight to make the score 23-17 when Air Force called their final break. The Rams committed back-to-back errors, but then scored four of the next five, with four Falcon erros to lead 27-20. The Falcons battled back and scored the next four to make the score 27-24 and the Rams went on to win 30-25.

Bauer served the first five points of the second game, including two ace serves before a kill by Hamlett put the Falcons on the board. The Rams scored three of the next four to lead 8-2. CSU again scored four of the next five to lead 12-4 when Air Force scored three straight, including two blocks for 12-7. Mokelki stepped back to the service line and served seven straight points, which ties for the longest serving run of the season (Ashley Fornstrom vs Texas Tech) and gave the Rams the 19-7 advantage. After two points by the Falcons, Bauer scored five straight points to make the score 24-9 and the Rams went on to win 30-17.

After the long break, the Rams scored seven of the first nine point for an early 7-2 advantage. Air Force went on a long run, scoring seven of nine to take its only lead of the match at 10-9. The Rams scored the next four, with two Bauer aces and two kills by Barnes for the 13-10 lead. The Falcons scored two straight but the Rams answered with a four-point run to lead 17-12. After four points to make the score 19-14, the Rams went on a six-point run behind the serving of Strauss to take an 11-point lead at 25-14 and went on to win 30-17.

Colorado State will play at New Mexico tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m., and then travel to TCU for a Tuesday match.
