Colorado State University Athletics

From the Desk of John Weber – Our Future is Just Beginning

The beginning of the academic year carries a wave of excitement and hope for what awaits all Colorado State fans, but the 2026-27 season comes with an added surge of anticipation.
Since we concluded our seasons last year, we have become proud members of the Pac-12. We have moved forward with adidas as part of Ram Country. Brand new playing surfaces have been installed at Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena. This past May's historic CSU Day of Giving, which realized a record number of people supporting and over $1.5 million donated to athletics, was critical reinforcement of Ram Country's powerful impact and has been motivating each day since. Partnerships, such as with Oak View Group, have been bolstered as we continue to build toward a better future for the student-athletes who represent this world-class research institution with grace and class. And lastly we hosted an intercollegiate rodeo, two nights of PBR and three nights of world-class entertainment in Canvas Stadium. It's been quite the summer!
If you have not already, I can't wait for Ram Country to get to know our new leaders -- Michelle Gascoigne, softball coach, Blake Mosley, tennis coach, and Jim Mora, football coach. They are dynamic coaches and terrific people, and I know that you will enjoy getting to know them. I am also thrilled that Coach Ryun Williams extended his commitment to leading the Rams women's basketball program. Not only is Coach Williams the all-time winningest coach in program history, but he is also a proven mentor to so many outstanding student-athletes who have come through his program.
Part of the future we have long envisioned is now our present with the promise of continued elevation on the horizon. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to win conference championships that turns into postseason play. We are not simply satisfied to reach the grand NCAA stages but win when we get there to further present to the world what we already know to be true – Colorado State is the home of academic success, research prowess, and competitive excellence.
And as I write this, we are already underway. Our soccer team is off to a 1-1 start, and soon, our volleyball, cross country, and football teams will take the stage. And looking back at the past two seasons, we have seen attendance records be shattered at Canvas Stadium and inside Moby Arena, totals we want to surpass again in 2026-27.
This past week, we welcomed the next generation of students to Colorado State, eager to spread their wings, carve their path and, of course, experience all that a university such as ours has to offer. That means madness in Moby and chaos in Canvas, moments which will become part of the fabric of their college experience. We want them to take in all they can while they are here, earn their own wins, celebrate when the Rams win, and then return long after their degrees have been earned.
I was one of them at one point in my life, as were many of you. We all love and appreciate the promise of what an upcoming school year can hold, and I believe this is just the first in a series of great next steps to follow.
As Always,
Go Rams!!
