Three coaches, Horton, have ties to Rams

FORT COLLINS  Colorado State fans can easily find a rooting interest in Super Bowl LX as the Seattle Seahawks will carry strong affiliation with the football program into the matchup with the New England Patriots.

The game is set for Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m., at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Seattle has a trio of coaches and a player who can all link back to time in Fort Collins, all four of whom suited up for Colorado State and two who would later become coaches at the school. This will be the first time in five years Colorado State has had a footprint in the game; Warren Jackson was on the roster for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 but did not appear in the game.

Tory Horton, who ranks in the Rams' top 10 for career and single-season receptions and receiving yards, is a rookie on the Seahawks roster. After a strong start to his debut season with 13 catches for 161 yards and two scores, as well as a punt return for a touchdown in the first eight games, he was injured and missed the rest of the season. Horton will be the 21st former CSU player on a Super Bowl roster, nine of whom have celebrated championships.

The Seahawks have three coaches on staff, led by offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who has become one of the hottest commodities in the NFL head coach market. He played four seasons at Colorado State as a defensive back.

John Benton, a former all-conference lineman for CSU, is the longest tenured coach of the group, now in his 33rd season. Seattle's offensive line coach, he will coach in his second Super Bowl. His first appearance came in 2019 when he was with San Francisco, a roster which included former Ram, Weston Richburg.

For Rick Dennison, his will be his seventh Super Bowl appearance, the first three coming as a player for the Denver Broncos after his playing career closed at Colorado State. Seattle's run game coordinator and senior offensive advisor will be making his fourth appearance in the game as a coach, the first three victorious trips as part of Denver's staff.
