Three months in and so many more to go

After three full months in the Pac-12, I could not be more energized and excited about the opportunities in front of all of us. As planned, the Pac-12 is so much more than just athletic competition. Conference partnership is certainly strong, but our campus collaboration is outstanding and paying real dividends.

This past week, while traveling to Texas with our football team, the Colorado State Alumni Association hosted another Ram Rally in Austin. Ram Rallies are always outstanding and provide a great gathering for Rams who travel and Rams in that city or region to connect. The Ram Rally in Austin once again provided this great opportunity, but new this year included prospective students who are considering Colorado State along with students from Texas who were recently accepted and committed to CSU. The Alumni Association, CSU Office of Admissions, CSU Foundation, and Athletic Department shared what many of us already know -- Colorado State University is incredibly special.

In addition to being three months into our Pac-12 tenure, we are midway through the Fall seasons.  Ram Country continues to be amazing, supporting us like never before. Record crowds have filled Canvas Stadium, Moby Arena and the Rams Soccer Complex to cheer on football, volleyball and soccer. Thank you all, as this is incredibly important. The nation is watching and Ram Country continues to illustrate that Colorado State, Fort Collins and Northern Colorado have a championship mindset!

We are at the midpoint of football season. After bringing the Bronze Boot back to Fort Collins, our football team is working through transition and growth. Elevating to a championship level is comprehensive and hard work, and I am really thankful we have coach Jim Mora to lead this important transformation.  While we all would like to have more wins as determined by the standings, the work being done by Coach Mora and his staff is paying off and undoubtedly will translate to the scoreboard.  We have a lot to play for this season, and as Ram Country has done to this point, your support at Canvas Stadium -- continuing on Saturday when we host San Diego State -- is really important.

Once again, coach Emily Kohan and your Rams volleyball team find themselves at the top of the conference standings. As many have already seen, this team is talented and is a lot of fun to watch.  They will be on the road for important Pac-12 matchups before returning to Moby Arena to host Gonzaga on Thursday, Nov. 5.  Also, please remember to join Coach Kohan for Cocktails with Kohan at Penrose Taphouse and Eatery on Tuesday evenings from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. (Oct. 27, Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17).

It is hard to believe, but both your men's and women's cross country teams are approaching the Pac-12 Championship in Boise, Idaho, on Friday, October 30. Coach Kelly Voelz and the Rams continue their tradition of strong performances against formidable national competition, highlighted by the men's first-place finish and the women's third-place finish at the Wyoming Invitational.

The soccer team is in the homestretch of its season to cheer on and watch coach Keeley Hagen's team play. The Rams picked up an important point against Boise State last night as they battle to earn a spot in the Pac-12 Tournament. Following a road match at Oregon State on Sunday (Oct. 25), the Rams will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31, hosting Washington State.

It is still extremely early in what are year-long seasons for both men's and women's golf. Thank you to all who were able to make it out to the men's golf Ram Masters at Fort Collins Country Club and the women's golf Ben Connell Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club. Coach Jack Kennedy and the men's team are now hard at work in training until February, when they travel to The Prestige tournament in La Quinta, Calif.  Similarly, coach Laura Cilek and the women's team are also in training until they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Thunderbird Collegiate tournament in February.

Congratulations to your CSU swim and dive team, which is off to a 2-0 start with an early Pac-12 win over Washington State! Coach Christopher Woodard and the Rams head to Denver for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 30 followed by an old-school rivalry vs. Wyoming in Moby Pool on Friday, Nov. 6!

A pair of first-year coaches started the building process for their programs in these early months. While Blake Mosley and his tennis roster are still very active, Michelle Gascoigne and the softball team just finished a fall schedule with nearly 10 contests. All of them were played in Northern Colorado – and a handful at home – giving our fans a chance to get an early glimpse of what shapes up to be a promising spring run.

The tennis team will divide and conquer this weekend, with Sorcha Caves and Annika Planinsek representing the Rams at the Pac-12 Qualifier, while the remainder of the team will play at the Colorado Cup, hosted by Denver. Mosley and his team will finish the fall tournament season in San Diego the first weekend of November.

Right after you adjust your clocks, you'll need to update your calendar as the flip of the page brings basketball season into focus. The men's and women's teams will each play exhibition matches the final week of October, but on Monday, Nov. 2, Moby Arena will be the site of a hoops doubleheader to open the regular season. Coach Ryun Williams' women's team – fresh off an NCAA Tournament appearance – host Lindenwood at 5:30 p.m., followed by coach Ali Farokhmanesh and his men welcoming Montana State at 8:00 p.m.

We are just getting started, and I extend a big tip of the cap to Ram Country, which has fed us with early energy at sellouts for volleyball and football games. I am reminded each day how truly special Ram Country, Colorado State University and our community, Green and Gold Town, are. Thank you!

As Always,

Go Rams!!
