Long and Beers recognized as top players in the Group of Five
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State's Owen Long and Rocky Beers were named to the Hero Sports Group of Five All-America first and second team, respectively, the organization announced on Friday.
Â
The award is the second all-America honor of the season for Long, who was named to the Associated Press' midseason All-America second team in October. The nation's leading tackler racked up 151 tackles during the regular season and was the only player to average more than 12 across the course of the year (12.6).
Â
Long's tackle total ranked seventh in CSU history and earned him a spot on the All-Mountain West First Team. Long impacted the game in other areas as well, leading Colorado State in tackles for loss (5.0) and sharing the MW lead for pass breakups by a linebacker with five.
Â
Beers turned in one of the top seasons by a tight end in CSU history, breaking the receiving touchdown record at his position with seven on the year. Beers led the Rams in receiving scores and was tied for the second-most by a tight end in FBS this season.
Â
The Littleton, Colo., native had a remarkable end-of-season stretch, logging 20 receptions for 264 yards across the final four games with a touchdown in each of those contests. Beers was also recognized by the MW at the end of the season, earning a spot on the all-conference second team.
