Record-Setting Performances Highlight Track & Field Openers

Petr and Nordman each claim program records in first outings of the season.
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field opened the 2024-25 indoor season with a pair of meets on Saturday, highlighted by a record-setting performances from Anna Petr and Cole Nordman.

A trio of distance runners traveled east to compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener as Petr, Lars Mitchel and Michael Mooney each took to the track in Boston, Mass. Petr claimed Colorado State's top mark in the 3000m with a time of 9:15.11, surpassing former teammate Sarah Carter's previous record of 9:17.21 set in 2023. On the men's side, Mitchel posted a time of 14:01.30 in the men's 5000m while Mooney ran a 14:17.70 in the same race.

Meanwhile in Laramie, Wyo., at the Wyoming Power Meet, Cole Nordman put in a career-day for the Green and Gold and made some history of his own. The senior broke the program record in the 55m dash with a time of 6.17 and finished just 0.02 seconds away from matching the record in the 55m hurdles with his career-best 7.18 in the finals.

Another highlight was the dominance of the CSU women's throwers as the Rams took the top four spots in the weight throw and the top three in the shot put. Gabi Morris improved upon her top indoor shot put mark by throwing 57-7.5, taking top honors in the event.

Up next for the Rams is the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite & Multis, which will take place on Dec. 13-14 in Colorado Springs. The meet will represent the final competition in 2024 before breaking for the holiday.
