McBride named top offensive player, Stonehouse top specialist

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Honors continue to pour in for Trey McBride and Ryan Stonehouse, as each was recognized as players of the year by the Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation on Friday.

The organization released the 2021 All-NFF Colorado Chapter team, with McBride – Colorado State's first unanimous All-American who won the John Mackey Award – named the Offensive Player of the Year, while the All-American Stonehouse was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.

McBride and Stonehouse were the only two first-team representatives on the team for the Rams. Dante Wright (WR), Cam Reddy (OL), Toby McBride (DL), Scott Patchan (DL), Cayden Camper (K) and Thomas Pannunzio (KR) were all second-team selections. The team is comprised of players from college football programs of every level statewide.

On Wednesday, McBride became the program's first unanimous All-American, having been named first-team by the Associated Press, Walter Camp, the FWAA, AFCA and The Sporting News. A week earlier, he became the school's second major award winner when he brought home the Mackey Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate tight end.

It was all for good reason. The Fort Morgan product finished the year with 90 receptions for 1,121 yards, the fifth most in a single season by any FBS tight end in history. He led all tight ends in the country with those figures, doing so while taking 70 percent of his snaps connected to the offensive line. He leaves Colorado State in the top 10 for career receptions (164) and yards (2,100), as well as in the top 10 for a single season after his 2021 campaign.  He posted six 100-yard games this season, eight in his career.

Stonehouse graduates as the NCAA and Colorado State's career leader in punting average at 47.8 yards per attempt. His 244 career punts generated 11,656 yards, with 106 of them covering 50 yards or more (with a long of 81), while placing 90 inside the 20. He leaves with the top two single-season marks in school history, his 50.9 average this season and his 48.3 mark in 2018.

Western State defensive tackle Will Lydle was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while Coach of the Year honors wen tot Gregg Brandon of Colorado School of Mines.
