Four of the five NCAA-recognized selectors have tabbed McBride a first team All-American.
Â
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Four down, one to go to reach unanimous status for Colorado State tight end Trey McBride as the Sporting News becomes the fourth NCAA-recognized All-American selector to honor the John Mackey Award winner with first team status.
Â
Senior punter Ryan Stonehouse was also named a second team All-American by the outlet for the second time in his career (2018). It's Stonehouse's second All-American honor this postseason as Pro Football Focus named him to their second team as well.
Â
McBride, who became the fifth Ram in program history to reach consensus status on Monday, is the first Colorado State player to be named to the first team by Sporting News since Greg Myers in 1995.
Â
The final  selector – the American Football Coaches Association - will announce their team on Wednesday. If McBride is named to the first team on all five, he will become the program's first-ever unanimous All-American.
Â
The Fort Morgan, Colo., product was stellar throughout his career, but at his best in his final campaign. He leaves Colorado State as the most productive tight end in history, amassing 164 receptions for 2,100 yards and 10 touchdowns. His catches rank him fourth in a single season and seventh for a career; his yardage ranks eighth and ninth, respectively.
Â
He posted six 100-yard receiving games in 2021 (tied for second-best in a season by a CSU target), giving him eight such games in his career, which ranks sixth.
