Trey McBride and Scott Patchan each earned first team honors.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State seniors Trey McBride and Scott Patchan were named to the All-Mountain West First Team for their performance in 2021, and six other Rams were named to the second team or honorable mention lists, the league announced on Tuesday.

Patchan capped his collegiate campaign with a dominant 2021 season and became the first Colorado State defensive lineman in Mountain West history to earn first-team honors twice in his career. The last Ram defensive lineman to earn two first-team designations was Sean Moran in 1994 and 1995 when Colorado State was a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

The Tampa, Fla., native enjoyed two highly successful season with the Rams. In 2021, Patchan tallied 18.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, good for sixth all-time in a season in program history. His 27.0 tackles for loss and 16.0 sacks are just outside the top 10 for a career.

For McBride, the honor comes at the conclusion of one of the most dominant seasons by a tight end in FBS history. The John Mackey Award finalist concluded the 2021 season with 90 catches for 1,121 yards – the fifth-most in a single season in FBS history by a tight end. He became Colorado State's career and season record holder in receptions and yards by a tight end and the first tight end in school history to tally a 1,000-yard season.

On Monday, he was named Pro Football Focus' Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, and his 95.0 overall grade is the second-highest grade a player has ever finished with in PFF's existence. Only 2020 Mackey Award winner Kyle Pitts of Florida, a first-round selection of the Atlanta Falcons, has ever graded higher.

It is the second time in his career McBride earned first team distinction from the league (2019), and he is the first Ram tight end since fellow Fort Morgan native Joel Dreessen to be named to the Mountain West first team twice in a career. Dreessen and McBride were both named to the second team as juniors and first teamers as sophomores and seniors.

Punter Ryan Stonehouse was earned second team honors after concluding the best career by a punter in FBS history. His 47.8 yards per punt average over his career set an NCAA FBS record for career punt average, and his 50.9 average in 2021 was the best of his career and a Colorado State program record. The 50.9 average ranks No. 2 nationally, trailing only San Diego State's Matt Araiza, the conference's special teams player of the year.

Stonehouse is just the sixth player in Mountain West conference history to be named first or second team four times over their career.

Honorable mention honors went to placekicker Cayden Camper, who set a program record this season with 25 made field goals, as well as linebackers Cam'Ron Carter and Dequan Jackson and offensive linemen Cam Reddy and Barry Wesley.
