Rams Again Improve, Finish Fourth At Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

CSU fires its lowest round of the tournament and third-best final round to move up four spots on final day
PALM DESERT, Calif. – Colorado State moved significantly up the leaderboard for the second straight day to finish fourth at the 2020 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-22. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Wyoming, was played at Classic Club (Par 72 – 7,305 yards) in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Rams fired the third-best round of the day and their best round of the tournament, improving three shots over the second round with a third-round total of 5-under 283 and finishing at even-par 864. Auburn won the team title at 22-under 842, 18 shots better than Charlotte in second at 4-under 860. Denver was third at 3-under 861, followed by CSU in fourth and Oregon and TCU tied for fifth at 2-over 866.
Juniors Parathakorn Suyasri and Jack Ainscough led the Rams with a 54-hole total of 1-under 215 each, with Ainscough having the best individual round of the tournament for CSU with a 2-under 70 today. Sophomore Davis Bryant tied for 31st at 1-over 217, with senior AJ Ott one shot back at 2-over 218 after a final round 2-under 70. Sophomore Oscar Teiffel tied for 74th at 10-over 226, while sophomore Akedanai Ponghathaikul played as an individual and tied for 68th at 9-over 225.

We had another nice round today. We counted no double bogeys this time, which plagued us in the first two rounds. I saw tons of great shots and lots we can improve on moving forward. All in all a nice start to the spring.

- CSU moved up one spot from last year's finish in the event, as the Rams were fifth last year.
- This season, the Rams against schools from the various conferences are:
- Mountain West – 11-0
- Pac-12 – 6-0 (41-30-1 over last three years)
- Big Ten – 1-0 (8-0 over last three years)
- Southeastern Conference (SEC) – 6-3
- Atlantic Coast Conference – 1-1-1
- The Rams have now finished in the top five in four of their five events this year, holding a 66-9 head-to-head record.
- Junior Jack Ainscough has finished in the top 21 individually in each of his three tournaments in the team lineup this season.
