CSU makes up two shots in the final round to tie with BYU for the title, as the junior wins his first collegiate tournament

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – Colorado State was able to take advantage of the early stretch and hold on over the closing holes and finished as co-champions at the 34th annual Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Old Overton Golf Club (Par 70 – 7,204 yards). The Rams entered the final round on Tuesday trailing leader BYU by two shots but was able to make up the difference to share the title with the Cougars.

IN THEIR WORDS
Head coach Christian Newton
On winning the tournament title
I am really proud of this team and how they competed in this tournament. We did a great job of taking advantage of the holes that we could and then battled through the toughest holes on the course. It was a complete team effort as everyone stepped up against some of the best individual players in the country. To be able to take home a tournament title and a lot of great wins over some of the top caliber teams in the south was a big accomplishment and shows what this team can accomplish as a group. I am also very proud of Poon. He has been so close several times and it was good to see him put three solid rounds together and win a collegiate tournament.

Junior Parathakorn Suyasri
On winning his first college event after two runner-up finishes
This was great to finally be able to get over the top and put together all three rounds. I really was hitting the irons well both days and made some putts. Now I want to just keep moving forward and play consistent golf. But it made it even better that it contributed to a team victory as we all stepped up against some great competition.
