Recap: Rams fall in dual to Nevada, 283-289

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule with close loss in a dual versus Nevada, Feb. 21. The one-day event was played at Pasatiempo Golf Club (Par 70 - 6,500 yards) in Santa Cruz, Calif., an Alister MacKenzie design.
Competing in the play six, count four format, the Rams posted a team total of 9-over 289, six shots back of the Wolf Pack at 3-over 283. Nevada's Grant Booth led all scorers with a 3-under 67. CSU's top scorer was Blake Cannon, with an even-par 70, tying for second. Colton Yates was in fourth one shot back at 1-over 71, while Max Oelfke posted a 3-over 73, good for sixth. Jimmy Makloski was the fourth counter for the Rams, shooting a 5-over 75 to finish eighth.
"We had a couple guys play well today in Colton and Blake," head coach Christian Newton said. "This match will serve as a great way to get prepared for the upcoming NIT next week. We have set our sights there. Congrats to Nevada on the win. The play from their top two players was the difference."
The Rams are next heading to the National Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of Arizona, in Tuscon, Ariz., Feb. 28-March 1.
