Men's golf recap: CSU wins PING Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah - The Colorado State men's golf team won the PING Cougar Classic for the second straight year on Saturday. The team shot an 847 (-17) at Riverside Country Club to capture the title.
Head Coach Jamie Bermel was pleased with the team's performance, especially with the way the Rams made up ground on the leaderboard.
"It was a great win for the team," said Bermel. "We got off to a fast start and just kept making birdies. The win was great but to come from seven back was impressive."
UNLV placed second in the tournament with a team score of 851 (-13) while Pacific finished third with an 857 (-7). Zac Blair from BYU won the individuals medal with a 205 (-7).
Junior Kory Harrell led the Rams with a 7-under-par 209 and tied for fourth place. He finished the final round with a 5-under-par 67.
"Kory had a great tournament," said Bermel. "He was really solid all three rounds. It was a great experience for him to be in the last group of the day and finish strong."
Senior Ryan Peterson finished in eighth place with a score of 211 (-5). Sophomore Mike Sorensen tied for 11th with a 1-under-par 215.
Junior Zahkai Brown came back from 53rd place to finish in a tie for 19th. He shot a 67 (-4) in the final round, allowing him a combined score of 217 (+1). Freshman Kirby Pettitt tied for 32nd with a score of 219 (+2).
The Rams' next tournament is the Mountain West Conference tournament, May 5-7 in Tucson, Ariz.
"We need to take this confidence and momentum to Tucson for the MWC championship," said Bermel. "We have a few weeks off to get rested and get ready to play."
