EUGENE, Ore. -- Former Ram Casey Malone won the men’s discus throw Friday at the 2009 U.S.A. Outdoor Track & Field Championships with his throw at 213 feet, 3 inches.

Malone, a two-time Olympian and four-time All-American, out-threw the second place competitor, Jarred Rome, by five inches.

It's really special,” Malone said on his victory. “It's something I wanted for a long time. I've been going to U.S.A Nationals since the 1996 Olympic Trials. I have gotten to see the type of person that was national champion every year since then. It's quite an honor to finally achieve that.”

Malone graduated from Colorado State in 2000 and holds the record distance in the discus throw at 211 feet, 6 inches.
