Morton In 14th After Day One

CARSON, Calif. - At the USA Senior and Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Colorado State freshman Ashleigh Morton is in 14th place in the juniors heptathlon after the first day of competition.

Morton opened the day with a 16.76 in the 100 meter hurdles, then cleared a personal best 5-4.25 in the high jump, threw 33-11.25 in the shot put and ended the day with a 28.57 in the 200 meters. Tomorrow, Morton will begin the day with the long jump, then throw the javelin and conclude the seven-event competition with the 800 meters.

Former Colorado State All-Americans Casey Malone and Brian Trainor competed in the men's discus throw this evening, with Malone finishing fifth and Trainor placing ninth.

Tomorrow, Morton will finish the heptathlon, while senior Adam Trainor will throw the hammer, senior John Woods will compete in the 100 meters and freshmen Kirsten Anthony and Jeff Wahl will run in the juniors 1500 meters.
