Colorado State University football coach Sonny Lubick has plenty to be excited about as his team prepares for Saturday's Mountain West Conference game with San Diego State. Kickoff at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium is 1 p.m.

First, Lubick is happy his team, 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the league, is in the thick chasing a bowl berth for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons. With a win, the Rams become bowl eligible for one of the three MWC affiliations.

Second, Lubick will watch 14 seniors play their final home game Saturday. More impressive to Lubick is that all 14 will have graduated by the end of the spring semester. Two student-athletes - wide receiver David Anderson and safety Travis Garcia - will receive degrees in December.

Anderson has been impressive on the field, where he will conclude his career as the career leader in receptions and receiving yards. But he's been just as impressive in the classroom, where he boasts a grade point average above 3.00 in Speech Communications. When he obtains his degree in December, it will be after only three and a half years.

"What it says is they are all good kids," said Lubick following Tuesday's two-hour workout. "It's a credit to them. What it says to us is if you're a good citizen off the field and in the classroom, you'll be the same on the field.

"That says a lot about our program, too. They (players) have all grown up so much. They've become men. It's very satisfying to me personally, and all our coaches. They are a credit to the university."

Lubick said a surprise practice player Tuesday was linebacker Jahmal Hall, who reinjured his knee three games ago against Wyoming and appeared to be lost of the season. But Hall had the knee scoped barely two weeks ago and has vowed to play in this week's game.

"I was very surprised," said Lubick of Hall's presence at practice. "It shows you about how much he likes football, and how mentally and physically tough h e is. He's going to do everything he can to be able to play."

"Jahmal will give you everything he's go. My goal, is if we got 20 plays, I'd be happy. But he's got to be careful and cautious."

Starting cornerback Robert Herbert, who left last week's game at TCU with a right leg contusion, did not practice Tuesday. Center Albert Bimper remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. Blocking back Tristan Walker returned to limited duty after missing last week's game with a left ankle injury.

Athletic department officials also have several promotions in place for this week's game. Fans can bring a Mountain Dew soft drink can with a CSU ticket coupon on it to the McGraw Center ticket office or at the stadium game day, and purchase one reserved ticket and receive a second one free.

Saturday is also "Youth Dollar Day" at the stadium. Any youth, 17 years of age and younger, receives a ticket to the game for $1 when accompanied by a paying adult.

Tickets are available by calling 1-800-491-RAMS, or online at CSURAMS.com. Tickets are also available at all King Soopers and City Market grocery store locations throughout the state of Colorado.

Game day, the ticket office at the stadium opens at 11 a.m.
